With a forecast heatwave imminent (mid 20s) and Kev's well chiselled body starting to wane after 2 days off the bike it was time to don the Lycra once again and do some "Blyton" like exploring in beautiful Devon.
Our day started off with a 20+% climb out of the Ladram Bay caravan park, hard enough as it was for H without him again forgetting to take his asthma meds (a morning checklist is definitely needed!)
With Kev puffing like a vintage steam train we passed through the quaint thatched village town of Otterton and took a lovely back woods route through to Budleigh Salterton and on to Exemouth.
Here we picked up the beautiful Exe estuary trail that goes around the Exe river and on a warm (I'd almost forgotten how to spell that word) late July day. We inhaled the beautiful scenery as well as the smell of nearby cow dung making our way to Topsham just short of Exeter.
With our navigational compass going haywire we cheated taking a 5 pound ferry that deposited on the opposite side of the Exe just 15kms short of our destination of Dawlish.
With afternoon thundery clouds threatening to spoil the day we rolled into the non descript bustling town and launched the drone while taking in one of the most grizzly looking beaches we'd seen on tour - and yes people were swimming !
Turning back we cheated once more catching (according to H) an almost identical ferry service if you don't include the boat itself the cost of travel or the starting and destination points !
Our small ferry deposited us back over the Exe at Exmouth where we retraced our steps along rail trails past hordes of dogs to our starting point at Ladram Bay.
This massive caravan park occupies a stunning coastal position and is like a holiday entertainment centre buzzing with parents and children on the ist day of the summer school holidays.
With scenery taken in and a well deserved meal downed it was back to Honiton for a late evening platter of what is becoming our favourite Wetgerspoons dish of fresh fruit and ice cream - roll on summer days !

With Kilts dusted, Sporrans polished and thermal jocks on board the boys are back at it again this time traversing the beautiful and isolated wilds of Scotland on a 2,200km loop ride from Edinburgh Scotland UK ! What a blast !
